Mrs. Carrier's Career Information

Personal Background:
I am originally from Honaker - a small town in Southwest Virginia that I am proud to be from. The only famous person from Honaker High School is Heath Miller, the tight-end for Pittsburg Steelers, formerly of UVA. I love Elliston because it's a small town also and the high school is similar to the one that I attended. I have been married for five years to Anthony, who is a project manager for a roofing company in Roanoke. We currently live in Christiansburg, but we have purchased land in Ironto and are planning to build a log home there in the next couple of years. We are expecting our first child, Grace Elizabeth, in December, which is so exciting :) I absolutely love teaching and couldn't imagine myself doing anything else.

Educational Background:
I attended Radford University for a bachelor's of business administration in Accounting and then went to Virginia Tech to obtain a master's degree in Accounting & Information Systems before I realized I wanted to be a teacher. So, then I got a master's degree in career and technical education and here I am now.

Work Experience:
While at Radford University, I worked on campus in the Department of Accounting and Finance. I also served as a Peer Instructor and Quest Assistant, which were the two most fun jobs I have ever had. I got to teach a freshmen class on transitioning to college and I got to spend a summer at RU helping freshmen transition to college.

While obtaining my graduate degrees, I worked as a bookkeeper for Connect Me Services, Inc., a small telecommunications company in Blacksburg and then at Harmonia, Inc., a small information technology company at the Corporate Research Center in Blacskburg. I also worked in the Capital Assets & Financial Management office on campus. I taught accounting for a semester at New River Community College and then completed my student teaching at Christiansburg High School. I also served as a substitute for Montgomery County Public Schools during the spring of 2006. During the spring and summer of 2006, I taught adult education and kids computer camps for the YMCA. I was an assistant coach for the volleyball team for one year at CHS and for one year for EMHS. I also assisted the varsity basketball team last year. This will be my 3rd year teaching at EMHS.

I also enjoy traveling, taking pictures, and scrapbooking.
